Somewhere between Valladolid and the jungle, a Maya family opens the door of their home to you.
Doña Nemencia has lived long enough to see the world change, and yet her home, her hearth and her language are the same as always. She lives with her daughter Doña María and her brother Don Francisco in a palapa house. They speak Maya, the language they have spoken all their lives. Christian, Doña Nemencia’s grandson, will guide you in the morning through the spaces of the house, the logic of the hearth, the construction of the palapas, and the family garden with its trees and plants.
They will invite you to help make corn tortillas. It is not a demonstration, it is what they do every morning.
One member of the family learned to make cambuchas, traditional ferments that they now sell commercially, a new economic activity that makes the whole family proud.
At the end, breakfast: eggs with chaya, beans, freshly made tortillas and a hibiscus infusion. A simple, genuine table that is, in itself, the best summary of the morning.
At 10:30 AM we continue to the cenote, Chenxunan or Xantuario, depending on your choice. An exquisite place where the jungle surrounds you, the silence is real, and the water receives rays of light that reach the bottom and its caverns. Only your group, all day. Comfort exists: palapa, wooden decks, hammocks, a meal served with every detail considered, but it never takes over. The connection with your loved ones and nature always wins.
